Find your future with us.Boeing Defence UK is responsible for delivering IT services to a number of customers both internal and external throughout the UK.  The Senior Unix Infrastructure Engineer is part of the Infrastructure Team working closely alongside other technical teams, service management and programme functions.The Senior UNIX Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for delivering and sustaining the NIX infrastructure estate developing where possible automated process and workflows. Maintaining and improving the quality and adherence to contractual SLA and KPI requirements of the programme within Boeing Defence UK (BDUK). Working alongside the wider infrastructure, middleware and application teams to enhance the existing support and delivery functions by adopting an “automation first” mind-set.The successful candidate will be working within the Platform Engineering team to enhance the stability of the environment and improve methods of infrastructure delivery, they must be able to manage projects to completion leading small teams to successful outcomes, technical leadership will be key for this role.This role will report to the Infrastructure Manager.Responsibilities:Developing Dashboard views of Infrastructure estateMaintaining documentationPerforming and enhancing (through automation) administrative tasksPerform patching activities (automate where possible)Fault diagnosis including problem statements and mitigation planningIdentify areas of improvement Support the delivery of an automated InfrastructureWork closely with other teams across the business to improve efficiencyThe successful candidate will be expected to be part of a 24x7 on-call team and provide extended hours support via a team rota.Create new automation solutions and product offerings for infrastructure services.Document automation standards to be followed by the organisationWork closely with other teams across the business to improve efficiency of the infrastructure such as service managementCompetencies: Good demonstrable experience in a Senior UNIX =Admin / Team lead Infrastructure role Experience in a UNIX and RedHat [RHEL7 & RHEL 8]roleGood UNIX/Linux systems administration skills, including configuration, troubleshooting and scripting.Troubleshooting and performance tuning experience.Experience leading small teams and projectsExcellent communication skills both written and verbalStrong organisational skillsWorking within an ITIL frameworkExperience of automation techniques such as Ansible, Ansible Tower, GitlabExperience of containerization such as Docker and Kurbenetes and OpenshiftExperience in a supervisory role & mentoring junior /entry level SARedHat Certification RHSA or RHCEDesirable:  Experience of commissioning and managing an enterprise, on-premise Platform-as-a-Service, ideally RedHat OpenshiftFluency in at least once scripting language such as Ruby, PowerShell, Python or Java.Experience of working within a secure and high availability environmentDevOps experienceOther information:SC eligibility is required.Hybrid Work Option (Virtual/Office): Yes with some travel to Bristol site as required.All information provided will be checked and may be verified.Important information regarding this requisition: This position does not have sponsorship approval.
